Author Melissa Pearl Q&A

Author Q&A #1

I am a subscriber of Melissa Pearl’s Newsletter and I am so glad that I am because she always send ARC’s out before its released date. And I have to tell you that they are all amazing. It just keeps on getting better and better.

I thought that hosting a Q&A would be fun a lovely experience for me and Melissa. I asked her and she agreed to do it too.

So, let’s get on with the Q&A…

-How do you write your novels at a really fast pace? (It really amazes me!)

I constantly have stories going on in my mind and I keep constant notes of any new scenes that come to me. When I sit down to plan my story usually a third or more is already written in my mind. I then do detailed plans of each scene so when it comes to starting my first draft, I can copy and paste huge chunks of text into each chapter so pumping out the story is quite quick. For me, having a thoroughly planned story makes such a massive difference 🙂

-Where or who do you find your inspirations most to write the Songbird Novel series?

Songs are my biggest inspiration for that series. I’ll hear a song that will spark a scene in my mind and then the story gets built around (or adapted) by the songs. That’s not always the case…I mean I usually have a basic storyline, but songs have really expanded the idea or veered it in a different direction 🙂

-Who has inspired you to write and continue writing?

My best friend was the person who told me to write my first story. I was always telling her about my ideas and then she challenged me to write one so that she could read it. I fell in love pretty quickly! My readers are now my main inspiration. Their enthusiasm and passion for my stories keeps me going. I love interacting them and I totally have them in mind when I’m writing my books now 🙂

-At what age did you decided to become an author and when did you start writing?

I’ve always had stories running through my mind but it never occurred to me that I could be a writer until my friend told me to write a story for her. After she loved it so much, I tested it out on a few other people and started to realize that maybe this was something I could do. I was teaching middle grade at the time…in my mid-twenties 🙂

-What was your favourite childhood book or series?

Probably Sweet Valley High 😀 I LOVED those books so much. During the school breaks, I’d probably read one a day!

-Which genre do you enjoy reading if you’re not writing?

Romantic suspense is by far my favorite. I love a story that involves both love and danger…there’s something so enticing about it. In saying that, I actually love many different kinds of books, but they have to have romance!

-Who is your favourite author/s?

Cambria Hebert and Anna Cruise are right up there for me. I basically read everything they publish. I also love Francine Rivers – she writes amazing Christian fiction. Dee Henderson’s early stuff is also really good and I always love a good Nora Roberts novel 🙂

-If you had to choose one novel from the Songbird Novel as your favourite, which one would it be?

Oh man – that is such a hard question to answer! I love them all for different reasons! Um…but probably Jody and Leo’s story…Everything. And actually – Fever is another favorite. I just love the shower scenes, and Colt is just…*swoon*!

-Which couple in the Songbird Novel Series would you ship the most?

Another really hard question!! I love Nessa and Jimmy. Their relationship is so intense and then Marcus and Kelly always make me smile as well. Gotta adore them 🙂

-If you were stranded in an island with one of your characters in the Songbird Novel series, who would it be?

Oooooo – great question!!! Probably Colt because he’s calm, thoughtful and strong. He’d be really great in a crisis…as would Leo. And actually, Marcus would be great too, plus he’s funny and easy to be around. If I’m honest, I could probably find a reason to be stuck with any one of the Songbird characters. If Jody and I were lumped on the island together, we’d spend the whole time singing…that’d be fun 😀
